Great information. Stuff I never knew, and most of which I have already forgotten. Delightfully humorous. I will forward this to a few of my high-functioning FB friends for their edification and pleasure.

it was fun getting it all straight, or at least as much as I could. Glad the humor landed and you enjoyed the post!

England, and only England; I care not one whit for the other places, just England and I want to see England independent of the burden those places are to England.

England.

Very well said. The latest term is “YooKay”, for the parts of the country changed by Blairite social engineering including mass migration of incompatible cultures.

One nit-picking correction. Old English was spoken in parts of modern territory of Scotland. It’s not true to say it was only spoken in the territory of modern England and that the English language spread entirely from there.

Fair catch, and you're right. Northumbria reached well into what's now southern Scotland, so Old English was spoken there too. Which kind of proves the point of the post: even the language refuses to stay inside the lines!

Who cares? They are about to be a colony, and the onus is on the provincials to learn the language of their conquerors, not the other way ‘round.

I give you the King of Canada. I love sending a frame to family and friends of the King so they can put it up on the wall.
